Stop Ruining Your Hands and Your Manicure and Your Life Peeling Potatoes

peel hero

Mashed potatoes are hands-down the best part about Thanksgiving. Peeling them, on the other hand, is not. Good thing we found the easiest trick ever to put an end to this time-consuming (and potato-wasting) task.

What you need: A pot of boiling water and a pot of ice water.

What you do: With the skin still on, boil the potatoes in water for 15 to 20 minutes until they’re fully cooked. Next, submerge each one in ice water for 5 seconds a pop.

Here’s where the magic happens: After you’ve removed the potato from the ice water, use your hands to rub the skin right off.

Why this works: While the ice water cools the skin, the center of the potato is still piping hot. This causes the peel to detach.

So, what are you waiting for? Get the butter out and start mashing.
