Not only does Clevr make whipping up an oat milk latte a total breeze, but the brand also loads its drinks with adaptogens, probiotics and organic, non-GMO superfoods. Adaptogens are plants that help the body manage stress by supporting the adrenals (aka the glands that control hormonal stress response). Paired with caffeine, which offers an immediate energy boost, adaptogens like ashwagandha, lion’s mane mushroom extract and reishi are purported to help build long-term, sustainable energy over time, soothe and balance the nervous system and reduce anxiety, among other benefits. Probiotics and plant-based ingredients also nourish your gut and body.
On the caffeine front, Clevr will energize you, but it’s not so supercharged that it’ll give you the jitters—three of the five blends contain 40 to 55 milligrams per serving. (The Mayo Clinic suggests getting no more than 400 milligrams per day, which is roughly four cups of standard coffee.)
Clevr’s lattes are also made without added sugar, unlike most lattes you’d buy at a café. Instead, they’re sweetened with monk fruit extract and erythritol. Not only does this ensure that the drinks are lower in carbs and calories, but it also prevents an afternoon sugar crash and makes the drinks safe for diabetics and low-sugar diets. Even better, the powders already contain vegan superfood creamer made from oat milk and coconut cream (which is chock-full of healthy fats and natural sweetness), so you won’t even need to add milk.
Despite their fancy ingredients, Clevr drinks are mind-blowingly easy to make. Just a few tablespoons of mix frothed in water get you a mind-clearing, mood-lifting latte that you’ll actually want to get out of bed for. The mixes dissolve best with hot water, but there’s nothing stopping you from adding a few ice cubes to your drink and enjoying it cold. You can also start with warm water instead if you’d prefer it cold, so the drink doesn’t melt the ice too quickly—just be sure to froth thoroughly. (You can use Clevr’s milk frother, or opt to shake, stir or blend it instead.) The lattes turned out pretty identical to how they’re pictured—and they’re just as creamy and decadent as you’d hope.
Each individual bag of SuperLatte mix contains 14 drinks, and at $28 a bag, that comes down to $2 each. In our experience, an oat milk latte from a café costs about three times that, and that’s without the added health benefits and organic ingredients.
