Love her or hate her, Taylor Swift is a force to be reckoned with. Whether she’s introducing legions of new fans to the NFL through her relationship with Travis Kelce, influencing Superbowl party style, topping billboard charts or churning out album after Grammy-nominated album, it seems the gal can do it all. And, she does it in style. As someone who sometimes struggles to dress herself, I’ve been studying Swift’s sartorial choices intently, and after analyzing a year’s worth of her outfits (and more), it dawned on me that she’s following one of easiest fashion hacks in the playbook: sandwich dressing.

As PureWow Fashion Editor Abby Hepworth explains, this fashion rule “entails balancing one piece on your bottom half with another on your top half and including something contrary in the middle…this can be achieved with color, fabric weight or proportions.” For fashion neophytes like myself, that gets complicated, and quickly. What I appreciate about Swift is that she simplifies it another notch by often opting for the matching set. Poof! Half (or pretty much all) the work is done for you, since the top and bottom pieces are already coordinated. Keep things easy by donning matching neutral accessories, and you’ll be dressed with barely a thought. Some prime Swift examples: this denim-on-denim look, a plaid matching set, her fun corset and leather skirt combo and a classic monochrome ensemble. Below, I’ve rounded up a handful of sets I’m sure the tortured poet would approve of, plus one that I’ve got my eye on.

Taylor Swift Is in Her Corset Era—and with These 5 Styles, You Can Be Too

This number checks off two of Swift’s M.O.s: denim and corsets. The top has a peek-a-boo effect with its front hook-and-eye closures and cutesy bow details on the straps. The denim corset is rigid and cut with a slight taper at the waist, while the pinstripe trousers are low rise with a zip and bar closure. There are also five pockets, and the waistband is frayed for a slightly distressed look.

If you, too, were drooling over the cute plaid skirt suit the “Love Story” singer donned for a Chief’s game last year, the bad news is that it was Versace and the blazer alone is $3,350. (It’s now $1,675 if you’re feeling splurge-y.) The good news is that skirt suits are a classic, and PureWow reader favorite brand Reformation makes a good one. Though these iterations aren’t available in Swift’s splashy red, they’ll still lend instant polish.

IDK where you were when Swift showed up to the New York premiere of “All Too Well”, but she dazzled in a plum velvet suit featuring a statement-making double-breasted blazer. My go-to when I need a suit is Sézane—I’ve already racked up the compliments on a burgundy number I purchased in the winter. While they don’t offer Swift’s shade of purple, the Michele jacket and corresponding Aldo trousers are available in a matching orange-red hue, which just so happens to be the pop-star’s go-to lipstick shade.

As Swift proves time and again (examples one, two and three), she’s not afraid to do an all-black ensemble, and example two from the Tribeca Film Festival premier of “All Too Well” also shows that she knows how to wear tailored separates even when the weather’s warm. The solution: opting for a vest over a blazer. With A&F’s matching set, you, too, can be chic for just around $100.

Swift loves denim on denim, and this is an iteration I’d personally wear. (I think it’s a more grown up version of the singer’s preppy babygirl style.) I already own a denim jumpsuit from this indie, Brooklyn-based brand, and when I saw this matching set I knew I had to buy it. The denim is true to size, a tad stretchy, machine washable and quite comfortable while keeping things smoothed over. Every time I wear my jumpsuit I rake in the compliments, and I’m sure the same will happen with this set—I’ve already got majority friend approval.
