Long before Meghan Markle was dating Prince Harry, she was regularly seen wearing a slipper-style (and ultra-cushioned) shoe from Birdies, called the Starling. Over the weekend, the Duchess of Sussex posted a surprise video reel to Instagram showcasing a family trip to Disneyland in honor of her daughter Lilibet’s fourth birthday. Lo and behold, the very same Starling loafer (in black) from her Toronto days reappeared and looked to be Meghan’s shoe of choice for chasing her kids around the happiest place on Earth.

I, for one, can attest to the comfortability of this design. Birdies is renowned for its 7-layer support system, delivering what the brand dubs “cloud-like comfort” and—in the case of the Starling—it’s packaged together in a sleek velvet design. In fact, Meghan inspired me a long time ago to nab the Starling when she donned them on a royal tour of Australia with Prince Harry in 2018. Back then, she styled them effortlessly with denim, much like she did over the weekend in Anaheim. (The Starling comes in over 15 different colors, FYI.)

Like I said, the sneak peek of Meghan’s trip to Disneyland, plus her hubby Prince Harry and two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, was a total surprise. The duchess was dressed casually in a white button-down, denim and a pair of Minnie Mouse ears. Still, that tiny Birdies emblem—which has the appearance of an upside down crown—could be seen loud and clear as she gleefully followed her kids around the park.

A shoe that can hold up to a day at Disneyland and still look chic? Yes, please. I’ll add, based on my own experience: I feel like I could wear my Birdies to walk up and down Manhattan and look as stylish as the duchess with feet that remain blister-free. A win-win.
