As a plus-size person who adores fashion and writes about it for a living, I sometimes wave off certain rising trends (looking at you, unbuttoned jeans) and items (sorry, Reformation) when they float my way. Not because I don’t see their appeal, but some usually fall under a tricky gray area, leaving me to wonder if said trend will work for my body type or be available in my size. Spoiler alert, the results usually end up being a resounding no. Having a curvy body with a large bust and even larger hips, it’s rare for me to find a buzzy clothing item I can try out for myself. But when I do, I make it my mission to test to see if it matches its given hype.

All that said, I don’t think there’s a pair of pants more raved about than the Maeve Colette from Anthropologie, particularly from the petite crew here at PureWow. But it’s not just folks with 5’4” and under statures singing its praises—it’s everyone. Just read what one devout Anthro customer had to say about them: “I now own these pants in several different fabrics, colors, and lengths. They are the perfect pants. You can dress them up or dress them down. They look cute with sneakers, heels, or pointy flats. They are comfortable enough to wear all day. I'm between two sizes and wear the smaller size in the linen and the larger size in the denim/magic fabric. But both are perfect!”

Here’s the thing, I don’t take claims like these lightly. While offerings in the fashion industry for standard and plus sizing are vastly different from each other, there is one common enemy we share: finding the perfect pair of pants. With these bold praises—and Anthro’s expansive size range—in mind, I put these tried, trued and rave-reviewed pantaloons to the test, incorporating them in my summer fashion rotation to see how they held up, and if they truly are the perfect pair of pants.

So, What Is the Maeve Colette Pant?

There are various iterations of the Colette Pant, from shortened inseams to seasonally-appropriate fabrics and hues. Fans of the brand have deemed these bottoms “the greatest pants of all time,” thanks to their flattering tailored silhouette and endless versatility. PureWow’s petite editors can’t get enough of the cropped length pant, but for this review, I tried the full-length, wide leg pair in the buttery soft, only-at-Anthro magic fabric—a dreamy blend of cotton, linen, viscose and elastane. This specific pair is designed with an ultra high-rise fit, which flows down to a loose fitting, wide leg hem. The pants also have four adorable patch pockets, two sturdy buttons and a long front zipper. Here’s my honest review.

My Review of the Maeve Colette Pant

What I Like

  • machine washable
  • soft and stretchy fabric
  • stylish patch pockets
  • second interior button
  • minimal waist gapping

What I Don't Like

  • creases easily
  • fabric can bunch around the front
  • can ride up after bending down or sitting

Anthropologie

Let’s start with Anthro’s sizing. For reference, I usually wear a size US 22 in bottoms. Truthfully, I feel like I could have sized down. They’re incredibly high waisted, with the waistline hitting right above my belly button. And the pants give *a lot* of breathing room—no matter how bloated you get. I also find that they’re very easy to move around in, and are a godsend for days when I’m on-the-go and need to feel as comfortable as I can on my busy journey ahead. Whether that be trekking in congested subway stations or floating around a crowded office building.

The relaxed-but-snug fit of these pants is something I could wax on about for ages. They never feel suffocating around my thighs, but still hug my curves in the best ways possible. For me, with any pair of bottoms, they’re either too tight or too loose, too short or too long, but never just right. I also can’t forget to mention how the pants had little-to-no waist gapping, which is unheard of with any pair of denim or trousers I try on.

However, there were some minor hiccups that came up as I wore them throughout the day. After sitting down for some time, I noticed that the pants were visibly creased when I stood up, and if I bent over, they would ride up ever so slightly. If I were to purchase another pair in future, I would probably opt for the cropped length. While I stand at an average height of 5’6,” the pants fell past my shoes, and if they were even a hair longer, I would've been stepping on them. Additionally, I had to adjust the pants around my waist a few times, but it’s nothing a statement belt couldn’t fix.

The Bottom Line

So, are the Maeve Colette Pants the perfect pair of bottoms? Simply put, yes. While I did have to do some slight primping while sporting them out, it was still a lot less adjusting than I usually have on a regular day. They’re flattering, stretchy and comfortable to boot, and overall, a stunning option for everyday wear. I can honestly say they do live up to their fame, and wholeheartedly see myself trying different styles. I recently spotted a corduroy pair on the Anthropologie site, which comes right on time for next season. I know what I’m adding to my fall capsule wardrobe.
