I’m 5’10” and These Are the Tall-Girl Approved Clothes I’m Buying This Fall
There are so many amazing perks that come with being a tall woman. You never have to ask for help to reach the top shelf. Your body type is likened to models and athletes. Your height helps you stand out from a crowd.
But alas, to whom much is given much is required—and what’s required when it comes to dressing yourself as a tall women is well…a lot.
As a tall woman myself (I’m 5’10”), I’ve become accustomed to dealing with clothes not quite made for me (hello ruched arms on too-short jackets and “cropped” jeans that were never intended to be cropped), but this fall I’m making it my business to seek out pieces that cater to my body type. Behold, the 8 key pieces I’m adding to my wardrobe that are all tall-girl approved.
1. ASOS DESIGN Tall Quilted Longline Hooded Puffer
There’s nothing more frustrating than sporting exposed wrists with your brand new fall coat. Luckily, ASOS has a next-level tall girl section with an array of coats that won’t require you to find gloves or an extra-long sleeved shirt to cover your entire arm. I love this longline puffer for its simple and sleek design—the perfect way to stay comfy and cute this season.
2. Merino Turtleneck Sweater
I love this turtleneck sweater for its pop of color and super soft merino wool blend. This is the perfect layering piece and a fun way to add some dimension to your next ensemble. It comes in tall sizes which means the sleeve length is 34 inches, three more than the regular size. Another win for my too-often exposed wrists.
3. Ribcare Straight Ankle Women's Jeans
Cropped jeans are a necessity for every wardrobe, but when you’re tall they can easily veer into awkward territory. This black ribcage Levi pair comes in two lengths to accommodate longer legs. I can’t wait to pair these with booties, a long chunky sweater and maybe even the obligatory pumpkin spice latte in hand for effect.
4. Tall Parke Blazer in Wool Flannel
Ok so, I usually stay away from blazers because it’s nearly impossible to find one that actually fits my arms. Imagine my pure joy then when I discovered that J. Crew’s tall section has timeless blazer options that boast a 33 ¼ sleeve length and 28 inch body length.
5. Goldy Tall Boot Cognac
Alongside a taller frame comes feet that are often well…bigger. I spent most of my life wearing a size 10 but in recent years have jumped to an 11 (oh, the joys of pregnancy) and have found my options dimmish greatly. I love Loeffler Randal for offering truly chic styles in sizes up to 12. These are pretty steep as far as price goes but they’re a pair you’ll have for years to come that won’t go out of style and pair with pretty much everything.
6. The Tall Curvy Perfect Vintage Jean
A standard, everyday pair of jeans is integral to a functioning wardrobe. These tapered ‘90s supermodel mom jeans by Madewell give just the right amount of stretch, hit the perfect spot on your ankles and can be paired with everything from booties and sneakers to over the knee boots and heels. They’re truly a must-have.
7. Vivy 9x9 Heeled Booties
So, we’ve already discussed my shoe size situation, but can we talk about my love for Nine West when it comes to offering large sizes (up to 12) and truly comfortable options? They’re the brand behind my favorite (now discontinued) 7-year-old calf-length lace up boots and I can’t wait to add these crocodile embossed booties to my collection.
8. Silk Maxi Shirtdress
This silk number is drop dead gorgeous and I’m beside myself with excitement since it comes in tall and I can confirm that the sleeves will fit and the hem will hit in exactly the right place. I love the pairing above with booties and a crisp blazer, but this dress works just as well on its own or with a floor-length, chunky sweater jacket.
