If you’re anything like me, you wait all year to break out your cozy turtlenecks and puffers. Yet, if you’re also like me, you go to your closet each winter and realize you hate everything you own. Luckily, Abercrombie & Fitch is hiding some of the best winterwear around. I’m talking everything from a Merino wool sweater and faux-fur puffer to pairs of high-rise ‘90s jeans and relaxed cargo pants that I basically live in. So, in an effort to spare you hours of review sifting, I decided to round up 20 of the best pieces from the Abercrombie & Fitch winter collection.

Every New Yorker knows there’s only one way to survive freezing walks home from Trader Joe's: a really good puffer. This one delivers on all fronts, thanks to its wind- and water-resistant nylon. First, it has a removable hood, zip-front closure, storm cuffs, fleece-lined pockets and an adjustable interior drawcord. But the real selling point is that it’s categorized as “Warmest” through CLO Warmth Testing—and I can assure you that this thing keeps me insulated like Fort Knox. Unlike my previous puffer, which would allow icy wind to creep in at the top and bottom, this guy is double-lined with recycled polyfill and rows of buttons at the collar ensure I’m bundled from neck to knees. The cherry on top? It’s machine-washable with like colors on cold (tumble dry low).

Slim-fitting and soft-to-the-touch; exactly what I was looking for when I realized my wardrobe was missing a mock-neck. The featherweight rib fabric makes it breathable while the modal makes it fit like a glove. Not only that, but I love how the tuckable length makes work with jeans (casual) or a skirt (more elevated). Plus, if you’re anything like me, turtlenecks make you feel claustrophobic—this mock-neck leaves just enough room at the neck to keep me from feeling suffocated.

Here’s my go-to for when I’m holed up in my friend’s apartment for wine night. The sumptuous merino wool-blend fabric is anything but scratchy and the collar and banded hem and cuffs make it refined and casual at the same time. It also has a full-zippered detail that adds to its versatility. I can wear it with straight-leg jeans to aforementioned girl’s night or over flared leggings when I’m going to yoga (see: number 15 on this list).

You want to look nice at the office (but not so nice that people think you have a gala to attend after work). That’s why I love the elevated approach this dress takes on a roomy silhouette. Aside from the yarn fabric being warm and snuggly, it also has a more tailored fit than other sweater dresses. It’s not boxy or oversized to the point that it drowns you in fabric, and the V-neck with ribbed detailing on the hem and cuffs makes it polished instead of slouchy.

I was on the hunt for a ‘going out’ pair of jeans—relaxed in the leg but cinched at the waist—and this pair has become my Saturday staple. First, it has a loose, straight leg that doesn’t go too wide; I’ve tried many ‘relaxed legs’ that look more like parachute pants. Yet, what I most appreciate is the high-waist fit. It’s not absurdly high—I have a short torso and often look like Urkel in high-rise denim—but it’s just high enough to keep my stomach from showing in a cropped cardigan. Plus, I chose the black wash with slash-destroy detailing (there are 24 colors/styles to choose from) and it adds just enough edge.

A winter wardrobe isn’t complete until there’s a turtleneck sweater in the mix. This one is made from a cozy yarn fabric, which means it’s soft (instead of itchy) and sure to keep you warm on frigid days. The 25-inch body length falls just below the hips, so you can wear it on its own or tuck it into your favorite pair of jeans. The best part? It’s available as a cable-knit or a solid and the ribbing at the neckline, cuffs and hem tie everything together.

When I tell you I live in these pants, I’m not exaggerating. Everything from the fit to the color to the length is perfection. Again, as someone with a short torso, I’m most concerned with how high the waistline goes. Not only do these cargo pants hit right beneath my belly button, but they also give me some definition in the rear (here’s to anyone who also has a flat butt). They’re beyond comfortable, form-fitting in all of the places I need them to be and they’re lightweight and breathable. Bonus: There are three lengths to choose from—short, regular or long—and the regular hits just below my ankles (I’m 5’5” for reference).

Not only do I get compliments on this jacket’s fur accent, but it’s also become my answer to avoiding the whole ‘human marshmallow’ look while staying warm. It has a cropped waist with cinching at the bottom, and unlike other puffers, it gives your body some shape when it’s zipped. The best part is that it’s also categorized as “Warmest” through CLO Warmth Testing—and the wind- and water-resistant nylon has a satin finish that makes it glam.

Another soft sweater to add to your collection (because one can never have too many cozy knits), this cropped cardigan is easy to wear with anything—jeans, skirts, leggings, you name it. It’s also made from a cotton, viscose and nylon blend, so it’s soft, breathable and stretchy without sacrificing a tailored fit. And of course, the cable stitching is so right now (see: Grandpa chic).

  • Color options: cream, gray, blue, pink

This chunky scarf is made from the brand’s cable-knit sweater yarn, so it’s just as soft as the sweater you wear it with. Thanks to the 84-inch length, you can wrap it twice around your neck, drape it casually over your shoulders or use it as a makeshift blanket. It also comes in three neutral colorways that are sure to work with your entire closet.

Need a sweater dress for date night? Do yourself a favor and add this number to your cart. While the slim fit and off-the-shoulder detailing make it a knockout on its own, it also has the perfect mid-weight feel. The viscose and nylon blend make it warm, flexible and form-fitting, while the polyester gives it a soft and breathable finish. Perfect with pointy-toe boots to dress it down or open-toed heels when you’re going more formal.

This trouser takes everything from the best-selling Sloane trouser and elevates it with a premium crepe fabric. The ultra-wide leg makes it versatile, whether I’m going to the office or out for dinner with friends, and the lightweight fabric keeps it from feeling bulky. That said, it’s worth noting that they’re slightly longer; the ‘regular length’ just hits the floor when I pair them with sneakers (again I’m 5’5”).

ICYMI, scarf jackets are very in right now. I, along with multiple editors, are obsessing over this one for a.) its cropped, oversized look and b.) the removable matching scarf. The double-cloth wool-blend material can be layered or worn on its own, with a structured, boxy fit that offers plenty of space for bigger garments underneath. “It’s become a must-have among fashion influencers and editors alike,” says fashion editor Abby Hepworth.

Another look that’s trending right now? A-Frame shirt styling, which means buttoning the top of a shirt and leaving the bottom buttons undone. This cardigan has become the most versatile piece in my closet, thanks to this A-Frame styling hack. I leave the bottom two buttons undone and tuck it into flared jeans for work (aka no belly showing) and on the weekends, I pair it with a skirt while only buttoning the top. And aside from the fact that I can wear it anywhere, I love how the glossy sweater fabric and all-over ribbing make it feel substantial and slimming at the same time.

If you’re a yogi like me, this flared legging is about to be your new BFF. First, it’s made from the brand’s active sculptLUX fabric, which smooths and sculpts without pinching—all while offering tons of support without being restrictive. While the sweat-wicking fabric feels like a second skin during hot vinyasa flow, I most appreciate the hidden interior waistband pocket (so I can smuggle my phone in). Add to that the fact that it has a double-layer waistband with no top seam (no muffin tops here) and the V-shaped back is offset by slimming flares at the bottom.

  • Size range: XXS to XXL
  • Length: short, regular
  • Color options: onyx, dune

This simple, cotton-blended top is slightly cropped—and has become my daily uniform with mid-waist bottoms. It has a buttery, brushed jersey fabric that’s lightweight enough to layer and the crew neckline with straight hems makes it seamless and flattering. An absolute must-have for anyone who likes to keep their clothing simple and let their accessories do the talking.

  • Size range: XXS to XL

The styling options are endless with this puffer vest—wear it over chunky knits, bodysuits, oversized sweatshirts underneath and more. Not only is the vegan leather edgy-meets-glam, but it also has a wind- and water-resistant polyurethane coating (so functional, too). The cropped length, zip- and snap-up front and cinched hem also offer the perfect fit; it’s not oversized to the point where it drowns you out, but it has enough give for a thick layer to be worn underneath.

Whether you like it or not, low-rise jeans are back—and my short torso and I couldn’t be happier. This pair has become a part of my winter street style, thanks to its ultra-trendy vintage stretch fabric. The fit features an 8.5-inch low-rise that’s relaxed at the waist, and the baggy leg shape looks great with tucked-in turtlenecks and ribbed sweaters alike. My favorite part is that it has an authentic, light-wash vintage look with a distressed hem. It almost feels like I found them from the back of my mom’s ‘90s closet (which is exactly the vibe they exude when window shopping in Soho).

  • Size range: 23 to 37
  • Color options: light, medium with raw hem, dark, black with raw hem

Everyone needs a cashmere something in their closet, and this dress features a nylon blend that makes it fit like a glove. The material feels smooth on the skin—unlike other cashmeres that have caused me to break out in hives—and it has a slim silhouette that hugs my hips (without clinging too tightly to the lower belly area). My only warning is that the ‘regular’ length is somewhere between a midi and a mini. If you’re looking for a true mini dress fit, I’d suggest going with the ‘petite’ length.

Fast Facts

  • Size range: XXS to XL
  • Length: petite, regular, tall
  • Color options: black, light brown

Finally, a slim-fitting, sculpted sweater that can be worn alone or layered with virtually anything in your closet. The all-over ribbed detail and crew neckline make it more of an elevated basic, yet it’s still simple enough to add accessories galore (vest, scarf, beanie, etc.). It’s also true to size (I got the S), and its viscose and nylon blend is form-fitting, stretchy and seamlessly smooth on the skin.

  • Size range: XXS to XXL
  • Color options: brown, black, taupe, cream, green
