On a recent trip to Copenhagen, I popped into what felt like the Mother Ship of LEGO stores. Located outside Tivoli Gardens, it became a near-daily stop for my 7-year-old, but not for its range of sets (though he has been begging for this particular construction). Instead, he was obsessed with a wall of bricks, sorted by color and style and placed into transparent cubes—all available to shop. Indeed, you could pay approximately $15 to fill a box with as many LEGOs as you could manage—and store employees didn’t particularly mind if it was overflowing. (“As long as we can close the lid with a piece of tape, it’s cool,” one said, much to our delight.)
Mom Tested, Mom Approved: Storage Wall Pockets
Let’s be transparent

This inspired a LEGO storage project for our own playroom upon return—anchored by color and creativity.
When we got home, I bought these wall pockets from West Elm, which are large enough (approximately 14 inches in diameter) to hold quite a stash. I spent a Saturday organizing by color (a system which may or may not last) and now, my son beams any time he walks into his playroom and sees his LEGOs.

I’m also fond of the quick clean-up effect; I’ve found that I can basically scoop up the pieces by dragging the wall pockets across the floor.
More than anything, this simple set-up immediately whisks me right back to the Copenhagen LEGO store and a zillion projects built over cardamom pastry-ridden breakfasts. The best.
