Elmo Is Hosting a Virtual Scavenger Hunt on HBOMax, So Mark Your Kids’ Calendars

Are you already running out of social distancing activities that will entertain the kiddos for more than ten minutes? Look no further than Elmo’s Playdate: Scavenger Hunt, which will premiere on Thursday, August 6, on HBO Max.

Elmo’s Playdate is joining forces with Sesame Workshop (a nonprofit educational organization) to launch an all-new half-hour special that’s designed to help children find joy in staying home during the coronavirus pandemic.

Elmo’s Playdate: Scavenger Hunt follows Elmo as he teams up with Abby Cadabby for a virtual scavenger hunt. The pair communicate via video chat, all while enlisting the help of other Sesame Street friends, including Big Bird, Grover, Rosita, Oscar the Grouch, Bert and Ernie.

Along the way, Elmo runs into several familiar faces, like Amy Sedaris, who walks viewers through an easy craft activity for the entire family. Oh, and how could we forget about Gabrielle Union, who kicks off a sing-along? The silly references and surprising twists will have your kids giggling until the very end—so much so that it might be played on a continuous loop. (You’ve been warned.)

According to Kay Wilson Stallings (executive vice president of creative and production for Sesame Workshop), the special is designed to offer a new perspective on social distancing.

“Although summer looks different for many families this year, our Sesame Street characters once again show children that, with a little imagination, staying at home can still be fun,” she said in a statement. “We’re grateful to our partners at WarnerMedia and HBO Max for their continued support as we strive to meet the needs of children and families through learning and laughter in these challenging times.”

Come August 6, you know where to find us.
