Back-to-school season always sounds like it’s going to bring some semblance of order back to my life. The kids return to their routines, the calendar fills up and, theoretically, I have a little more time to myself. In reality? Fall mornings are chaotic. I’m packing lunches, looking for a missing water bottle and reminding someone (for the third time!) that, yes, they do need to wear a jacket to school.
Which is why I’ve learned that my drop-off outfit needs to do a lot. I want to be comfortable enough to survive the morning scramble but put-together enough that I can head straight into whatever comes next without feeling like I’m still wearing pajamas. And in the fall, that could mean a coffee meeting, a day at the office, a PTA meeting or standing outside on a field trip.
That’s why I turned to Stitch Fix and their personal styling services to curate looks that take the guesswork out of getting dressed, but also save me time on busy days. (When you sign up, a short quiz will help your stylist get to know your taste—and, even better, your size, so you’re never shopping looks that are out of stock.) Here, the five fall outfits I reached for in that first week, designed around the very real places I find myself going immediately after drop-off. Take a look!
