The Vampire Craze Is Back and I’m Not Sure How to Feel About It

Here we go...again

Twilight, True Blood, The Vampire Diaries, Dracula

When it comes to TV and movies, certain genres are always in demand—think action flicks, rom-coms, thrillers and comedies. But other genres, like vampire content, tend to follow more of a rollercoaster trajectory. And if recent releases are any indication, it looks like we’re hitting another vampire peak.

The massive success of Sinners, the Ryan Coogler-directed vampire film, paired with the news that all five Twilight movies became available on Netflix as of May 1, has sparked fresh conversation around iconic vampire content. People are revisiting The Vampire Diaries, True Blood and even newer projects like Nosferatu. And honestly? I’m not sure how to feel about it.

Don’t get me wrong—this isn’t vampire slander. It just seems like every 10 years or so, the vampire craze creeps back into pop culture in a big way. Consider this: Sinners and Nosferatu were released in 2025 and 2024, respectively. Before that, Twilight debuted in 2008 and The Vampire Diaries in 2009. These weren’t just popular shows and films—they were full-blown cultural movements that inspired Halloween costumes, themed parties and endless online debates.

I’ll admit it—I was absolutely on the Twilight train. I read all the books and showed up to every movie premiere with popcorn in hand. So maybe my hesitation now comes from a bit of vampire fatigue. The first book came out in 2005 and the final movie wrapped in 2012—that’s a long time to be thinking about the undead.

But then I stumbled across a 2015 Time article crediting Twilight with introducing the vampire craze to a whole new generation. And it clicked: maybe this isn't a comeback—maybe the craze never really went away. Maybe, it's just being discovered by new generations.

And you know what? That realization actually makes me kind of excited. I have two younger sisters—one Gen Z, one Gen Alpha—and the idea that we could all bond over a shared vampire obsession is kind of sweet.

So, I guess even with my conflicted feelings, I just have one question: Are you Team Edward or Team Jacob?
