The trailer introduces viewers to the story line, which takes place in New York City and follows an aspiring composer (Andrew Garfield) who begins to question his career choice—so much so, that it’s driving him mad.
“I am 29 years old. I work at the Moondance Diner. I have an original rock musical that I've spent the last eight years of my life writing...and rewriting...and rewriting. And the time keeps ticking,” Garfield says in the trailer.
The movie features an all-star cast, including Garfield, Alexandra Shipp, Robin de Jesús, Joshua Henry, MJ Rodriguez, Bradley Whitford, Tariq Trotter, Judith Light and Vanessa Hudgens.
We first learned back in 2018 that Miranda was directing a film adaptation of Tick, Tick…Boom! In a statement, the Hamilton creator explained that the decision was a no-brainer, especially since he starred in the 2014 stage production.
“Jonathan Larson’s captivating storytelling in Rent first taught me that musicals could be contemporary, true to life, and depict your own experiences,” he said. “But it was Tick, Tick…Boom! that solidified that drive in me to hone my own voice as a playwright.”
What’s that we hear? Perhaps a future Oscar nomination? Tick, Tick…Boom! is coming to Netflix on November 19.
