When it comes to show business, it can be tough to tell what’s actually happening and what’s just a rumor, even when the people involved are weighing in. Case in point: the recent speculation that Meghan Markle could join season three of Netflix’s The Gentlemen. Rumors began swirling in late August 2026, and now series star Theo James has offered his very cheeky take.

During a September 2 interview with Extra TV, James, 41, was asked about the casting buzz and joked, "Prince Harry is playing one of my love interests."

As for whether Meghan, 45, will actually return to acting in the Netflix series, that remains up in the air. If she does, it would be her biggest on-screen role since Suits, the legal drama she was starring in when she first met Prince Harry in 2016. Meghan left the show ahead of the couple’s 2018 wedding.

Meghan and Harry aren’t the only royal names being tossed around when it comes to The Gentlemen. James has also joked about the rumors before.

In an interview with Town & Country, also published on September 2, James was asked about “a certain ex-royal” potentially joining the Guy Ritchie crime drama. His response?

“Yes, Fergie is joining. She’ll be playing my love interest,” the actor quipped, referring to Sarah Ferguson by her nickname.

In the weeks leading up to The Gentlemen season two’s release, reports claimed Meghan was in talks for a role on the hit Netflix series, although no deal had been confirmed.

James told the outlet, “I think that was mainly a lot of hot air.”

“At the moment, we’re just trying to get as many eyes on season two, and then season three will happen soon,” the actor continued. “But in terms of story, we have the overarching ambition of where we’re going to go. We’re going to expand the world, go to different countries.”

“But in terms of the minutiae, I mean, it’s still very much up in the air,” he added.

So, will season three of The Gentlemen actually feature a royal cameo? We’ll have to wait and see. For now, seasons one and two of The Gentlemen are streaming on Netflix.
