In a world overflowing with reboots and remakes, it’s not exactly shocking when a beloved series makes a comeback. But some returns genuinely make you wonder, “Why did it ever leave?” Enter The Night Manager, the spy thriller that’s finally back for a second season after a decade and is currently sitting at number two on Prime Video.

The Night Manager follows Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston), a former British soldier who’s now working as the night manager at a swanky Cairo hotel. His life takes a wild turn when he’s recruited by British intelligence to take down ruthless international arms dealer Richard Roper (Hugh Laurie).

To do it, Pine goes undercover, adopting a criminal persona to infiltrate Roper’s inner circle. Along the way, he navigates betrayal, forbidden romance with Roper’s girlfriend Jed (Elizabeth Debicki), and the dangerous world of illegal arms dealing, all while trying to avenge a past tragedy.

Sounds thrilling, right? And it was. Season one, which aired in 2016 on BBC One, was a massive hit. The Night Manager racked up 36 award nominations and walked away with 11 wins, including two Primetime Emmy Awards and three Golden Globes for Hiddleston, Olivia Colman and Hugh Laurie.

Critics and viewers alike adored the show. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds an impressive 90 percent average rating. Fans were equally vocal. “A well-written show, easy to follow. Edge of your seat suspense,” one viewer wrote. Another said, “I couldn’t stop watching it. It definitely kept me hooked.” And a third proclaimed, “I think this show is perfect.”

With that level of success, you’d think a second season would have been greenlit immediately but nope. The official announcement didn’t come until April 2024, thanks to BBC One and Amazon Prime Video. And this time they secured seasons two and three. Better late than never, right?

On the bright side, if you need a refresher before diving into season two (which started airing on January 1), season one is streaming on Prime Video now.

New episodes of The Night Manager drop weekly on Sundays, so get ready to binge.
