I’m always on the lookout for a thriller that is going to make me grab a bag of popcorn, and folks, I think I’ve found my new #weekendwatch. Starring Léonie Vincent, The Glass Dome is a Swedish crime-thriller that chronicles the journey of a criminologist and her former police chief partner who are tasked with investigating the disappearance of a young girl in the *exact* same town where she was once held captive. There are, of course, tons of dynamic twists and turns along the way, and folks, if the trailer is any indication, we’re in for quite the rollercoaster.

Directed by Lisa Farzaneh and Henrik Björn, the six-episode limited series has quickly risen to the third spot on Netflix’s top ten list, where it is captivating viewers worldwide. The series is set in the fictional town of Granås, in the Dalarna region of central Sweden, where you’ll be treated to stunning-yet-haunting imagery that adds to the overall suspense of the plot. Nordic noir mystery aside, “The Glass Dome” also deals with themes of unresolved childhood trauma and family drama, giving viewers an emotionally-loaded watch with no dull moments in-between.

While Rotten Tomatoes hasn’t yet determined a rating for the show, the reviews submitted thus far confirm you won’t be able to leave your seat once you start watching. “Here’s a psychological thriller that says, essentially, “hold my beer” to the myriad other half-hearted efforts ever-squatting in Netflix’s interminable thumbnails,” writes one reviewer, with another adding that this is a show that deliberately throws wrenches in your direction to shock you at the end. “Several aspects of the plot are left unexamined and characters sometimes act contradictory to what’s been established, but the storytelling effectively misdirects and twists leading to a satisfyingly dark conclusion.”

The Glass Dome sounds like the haunting mystery we’ve all been waiting for, and I, for one, can’t wait to give it a watch.

The Glass Dome is available to stream on Netflix.
