This Jeff Bridges Flick Just Hit Netflix's Top 10 List (and It's Oscar-Nominated)

Jeff Bridges just joined a long list of celebs (like Ashton Kutcher and Catherine O’Hara, to name a few) whose films have landed spots on Netflix's most popular movies list. The main difference? His film was Oscar-nominated.

Called Surf’s Up, the animated comedy just scored the #10 slot on the streaming service’s top 10 list. The film goes behind-the-scenes at the Penguin World Surfing Championship to get a close-up look at the inventors of surfing. Rated PG, the movie is ideal for the whole family to enjoy. Not to mention (aside from its Academy Award nomination), it’s also received seriously impressive reviews from critics, including a 79 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and a 6.7 on IMDB.

In short, the flick follows teenage penguin Cody Maverick (Shia LaBeouf) who cares about nothing but surfing. Followed by a documentary film crew, he leaves his home in Antarctica for Pen Gu Island, site of the Big Z Memorial Surf Off. In order to gain the respect and admiration he desires, he is determined to win the big competition. However, an encounter with washed-up surfer Geek (Jeff Bridges) teaches Cody about what is really important.

In addition to Bridges and LeBoeuf, the film also stars Zooey Deschanel (New Girl), Jon Heder (Blades of Glory), James Woods (The Virgin Suicides), Diedrich Bader (Office Space), Mario Cantone (Sex and the City), Kelly Slater (Baywatch) and  Rob Machado (The Drifter).
