4 Shows That Were Canceled in May (and Yes, 'The Bear' Is One of Them)

Fans are not gonna be happy about this...

Just a few weeks ago, in mid-April, Christopher Meloni started tearing up in a raw video after learning about the cancelation of his crime drama, Law & Order: Organized Crime.

“Hey everyone, I just saw that they announced OCOrganized Crime won’t be coming back,” Meloni said. “So I wanted to take this moment to say thank you to the fans, who not only helped give the character of Elliot Stabler life and longevity, but for sticking with him and welcoming him back.”

“Good ride," he added, as his eyes appeared to well up. Oof.

Sadly, Meloni is not alone in saying goodbye to a fan-favorite television show. In fact, in the first few weeks of May 2026 alone, it was revealed that, like Law & Order: O.C., four major shows wouldn't be getting additional seasons, including The Bear.

Here, the four shows that were canceled in May. (Cue the fan outrage.)

1. The Bear

  • Canceled after how many seasons: 5

Say it ain't so, Carmy! Just last week, FX confirmed that the upcoming season of The Bear (which has already been filmed) will be its last. This fifth season will debut on June 25 with eight new episodes, bringing to an end a show that was a massive hit with critics and fans alike. Though this official confirmation of the end may come as a shock to some, Jamie Lee Curtis not-so-subtly hinted at it back in March when she said, "It is the end of the show." For those fans who can't wait to see how things turn out, FX dropped a surprise bonus prequel episode titled "Gary" earlier this month.

It's the end of an era (and of Jeremy Allen White sweeping awards season).

2. The Night Agent

  • Canceled after how many seasons: 4

Sorry, folks, it seems that the upcoming fourth season of Netflix's spy thriller, The Night Agent, will be the last we see of Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso). Though this is sure to disappoint longtime fans of the show (which was renewed for season three before season two even debuted), the series creator has promised "a proper and thrilling conclusion."

We'll see...

3. Stumble

  • Canceled after how many seasons: 1

NBC has canceled beloved cheerleading mockumentary Stumble and fans are not happy about it. Even though the sitcom was reportedly one of NBC’s lowest-rated scripted series this season, it had a whopping 96 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The show starred some of my comedic favorites—Jenn Lyon, Kristin Chenoweth, Taran Killam—but even these heavy-hitters couldn't keep the show afloat.

And it's not just fans who are sad about the news. NBC exec Jeff Bader said, "I love that show...we did the best we could, I feel terrible about it."

4. Brilliant Minds

  • Canceled after how many seasons: 2

Don't act too shocked—Brilliant Minds season two was pulled from the NBC schedule back in February. And while the remaining episodes will still air, those will be the last for Zachary Quinto and company. Execs do promise that there will be a satisfying ending for remaining fans (of which there are far less than during season one). Find out what happens to the eccentric Dr. Wolf when the show returns to finish its run starting May 27.
