When it comes to celebrity biopics, there’s always one question everyone wants answered: Who’s going to play them? Casting can make or break a film and spark major fan debates. Now, that question is making headlines again and the name at the center of it? None other than Denzel Washington.

Following the news that rock legend Ozzy Osbourne passed away on July 22 at the age of 76, fans have been revisiting past interviews and one particular clip has resurfaced and gone viral. In it, Ozzy reveals the actor he wanted to portray him in a biopic. Spoiler alert: it’s Denzel.

According to Mirror US, during a 2010 appearance on The Nerdist podcast, host Chris Hardwick asked the Black Sabbath frontman, “Who would you pick to play you in a movie about your life?” Ozzy’s answer? "Denzel Washington." Yes, you read that right.

A meme of the moment has been circulating, with outlets like Screenthrill sharing the clip and cheekily declaring, “Your turn Denzel—this is what Ozzy Osbourne would’ve wanted.”

As for whether a biopic is actually happening, the answer is kind of. A film about Ozzy and his wife Sharon has been in the works for years. It was formally announced back in October 2021, and according to Film Stories, it’s still moving forward as of March 2024.

Even Sharon and son Jack Osbourne have their dream casting picks lined up. On The Osbournes podcast, Jack said he wants Barry star Bill Hader to play Ozzy: “Everyone thinks I’m crazy until I show a side-by-side picture.” Sharon, meanwhile, has her sights set on either Florence Pugh or Maisie Williams to play her.

So will we ever see Denzel as the Prince of Darkness? Time will tell but one thing’s for sure: Ozzy had vision.
