What We Know About Issa Rae’s Husband, Louis Diame

Insecure’s Issa Rae is now officially off the market.

In July, the actress tied the knot with her longtime boyfriend Louis Diame in a stunning ceremony in France. Rae shared a few snaps from the wedding and wrote, “A) Impromptu photo shoot in a custom @verawanggang dress. B) My girls came to help me, but they all coincidentally had on the same dress! They were sooooo embarrassed. C) Then I took a few flicks with Somebody's Husband. Big thanks to @whiteedenweddings for being so gracious and accommodating and making this feel so real and special.”

Given that Rae is known for keeping her personal life under wraps, the wedding definitely came as a surprise. And since we know so little about Diame, we thought we’d take a moment to learn more about the lucky guy who won Rae’s heart. Here’s what we know about Issa Rae’s husband.

1. Who Is Issa Rae’s Husband, Louis Diame?

Much like Rae, Diame keeps his personal very low-key, but according to a private LinkedIn page under his name (which appears to have been deleted), he’s an Independent Banking Professional based in Los Angeles.

2. Diame Made A Cameo In Rae's Original Web Series

If you've seen Rae's original series, Awkward Black Girl, you might remember a standout scene from season one, episode seven. Diame briefly appears as one of the Black men who gives Issa the side-eye when she walks into a restaurant with her white date—even though he has his arm around a white woman. This episode premiered in 2012, but Issa never mentioned the nature of their relationship back then. Still, it’s likely that the pair first met through this breakout project.

3. Rae And Diame Made Their Red Carpet Debut In 2016

The couple was first spotted together in 2016, when they made their first red carpet appearance together at HBO’s Insecure premiere in Los Angeles. Then, in 2017, they attended HBO's Official Golden Globe Awards After Party. The couple was spotted once again at Essence’s Black Women in Hollywood Awards in the following month, and by then, rumors started to circulate about the two being a romantic couple. Still, neither of them confirmed the rumors.

4. Rae Revealed In 2018 That She Intends To Keep Her Love Life Private

When Vogue asked the actress about her dating situation, she simply replied, “I don’t want any input. As a writer, you put everything on the table. I’ll take input on kids if I’m going to have kids. How do I not kill the kids? Work? Give me the input. Any other aspect of my life? Give me the input. But who I’m f**king? No, I don’t need input. I’m good.”

5. Diame And Rae Got Engaged In 2019

Though the star remained tight-lipped about her romance, fans caught a glimpse of the sparkly new engagement ring that Diame put on her finger in 2019. When she graced the cover of Essence for their March issue, she sported a 1.5 carat diamond ring that's worth at least $15,000, but neither she nor Diame publicly announced that they were engaged.

It wasn’t until Rae’s Insecure co-stars Jay Ellis and Yvonne Orji spoke with Entertainment Tonight that the news was finally confirmed. Ellis said, “We all found out in different ways because we’re all on different text chains. We talk at different times, so we all found out at different times in different ways.”

Orji also added, “The reaction was all the same, like, ‘You out here in these streets getting married, boo?!’ That was the reaction.”

6. And Rae And Diame Got Married In July 2021

In a surprise move, the Little star announced on Instagram that she and Diame had gotten married in France, complete with a stunning Vera Wang dress. The post included snaps of the gorgeous venue, her bridesmaids and, naturally, romantic shots of herself and the groom.

In the comments, her Little co-star Marsai Martin wrote, “YOU LOOK STUNNING MISS MA’AM. Congrats!!” Meanwhile, Insecure star Natasha Rothwell left a sting of heart-eye and crying emojis.

Issa Dee may not have gotten her happy ending, but the real-life Issa Rae certainly did.
