Issa Rae has remained quiet about her recent engagement to longtime boyfriend Louis Diame even though she debuted her ring on the cover of Essence’s beauty issue. So, when she stepped out yesterday for a screening of her new film, Little, at the Regal Atlantic Station in Atlanta, we definitely stared at that finger.

The 34-year-old Insecure creator was careful to keep her ring out of the spotlight while walking the red carpet. But when she took the stage alongside her Little co-star Marsai Martin she couldn’t help but let her new sparkler shine.

According to Alastair Smith, founder of Ringspo.com, Rae’s ring is a distinctive split shank cushion diamond in a halo setting. He estimates that her center stone is about 1.5 carats and the melee diamonds around the halo and pave band add about another half carat. He says that even with a high-quality diamond, the ring likely cost Diame about $15,000 to $17,000.

Although mum has been the word for Rae and Diame, her Insecure co-stars Yvonne Orji (Molly) and Jay Ellis (Lawrence) confirmed the engagement at the NAACP Image Awards last weekend. “We’re very excited for her,” Orji shared.

Ellis went on to explain, “We all found out in different ways because we’re all on different text chains. We talk at different times, so we all found out at different times in different ways.”

Rae and Diame, a Senegalese businessman, have been dating for about six years and have kept their relationship extremely private. Rae told Marie Claire last April, “I get so much feedback about everything. The one thing I don’t need feedback on is who I’m sleeping with.”

When she was asked about her engagement during a visit to The View earlier this week, she brushed the question off, saying, “I’ve got a lot of rings on my finger. I wear jewelry, you know?”

We totally get it…but we can keep a secret, Issa.
