Halloween may be over, but there are still plenty of supernatural horror films to go around. In fact, Insidious: The Red Door has risen to the top of Netflix’s charts.

Insidious: The Red Door originally premiered in theaters in July 2023, where it grossed $189 million at the box-office globally. The movie was added to Netflix’s database on November 4, and it’s already claimed the number one spot on the streaming service’s list of most-watched films.

Insidious: The Red Door takes place in 2019, nine years before Josh Lambert's (Patrick Wilson) possession in Insidious: Chapter 2. The story begins with Josh driving his son, Dalton (Ty Simpkins), to college. Their relationship has been strained ever since Josh’s divorce from Renai (Rose Byrne), and based on their interactions, they still have a long way to go.

Things take a haunting turn when both Josh and Dalton begin recalling memories of The Further, which is a dark parallel dimension that's explored in the preceding films.

Insidious: The Red Door serves as Patrick Wilson’s directorial debut. Other cast members include Sinclair Daniel, Hiam Abbass, Andrew Astor, Juliana Davies, Steve Coulter, Peter Dager, Justin Sturgis, Joseph Bishara, David Call, Leigh Whannell, Angus Sampson and Lin Shaye.

Although the film is a sequel to Insidious: Chapter 2, it’s the fifth installment in the franchise. The films were released out of order, but if you want to enjoy the story chronologically, you can start with Insidious: Chapter 3 (2015) followed by Insidious: The Last Key (2018), Insidious (2010), Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013) and Insidious: The Red Door (2023).
