Everyone’s Hyped for 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' Movie…Except Me

Hear me out

The series finale of The Summer I Turned Pretty finally aired on Wednesday, September 17. It marked the end of an era. A show that had fully consumed me—and millions of others—over the past three years wrapped its 11-episode third season.

In case you missed it: The series centers on Belly Conklin (Lola Tung), a teen who’s spent pretty much her entire life crushing hard on Conrad Fisher (Christopher Briney), her longtime family friend. But when Conrad doesn’t exactly return the feelings, Belly starts noticing someone else—his younger brother, Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno). What follows is a three-season rollercoaster of feelings, friendship and one seriously drawn-out love triangle that spans years.

Now let me be very clear here: I thoroughly enjoyed this coming-of-age romantic drama. It was the kind of show I genuinely looked forward to every week, popcorn and drink in hand. But when the credits rolled on that last episode, I felt a wave of relief. Not just because the show gave fans the ending we wanted (and did it well) but because I could finally put this particular moment in time behind me.

No more stressing about spoiler-filled social media scrolls every Wednesday. No more deep dives into endless fan theories and hidden Easter eggs. As dramatic as it sounds, I was genuinely excited to get a little piece of my life back. I was ready to let the TSITP hype settle and shift focus to other favorites (hello, Tell Me Lies and Reasonable Doubt).

So imagine my surprise when, shortly after the finale, it was revealed that The Summer I Turned Pretty wasn’t actually over. A movie is on the horizon.

My initial reaction? Not thrilled. My brain immediately went: “What else is there to tell? What more can they do? The story ended. Why are we milking this?” And it wasn’t because I didn’t want more of Belly and Conrad’s love story—it’s that I was kind of exhausted by it.

Let’s be real: most of us knew Belly and Conrad were endgame. But after watching their story stretch across three seasons, three years, and countless group chats, think pieces, and TikToks, I was tired of thinking about them. Tired of dodging spoilers, tired of waiting week after week for an ending I already knew was coming—but still needed to see play out. And now, with a movie coming (which creator Jenny Han told Today won’t be out for at least a year), it looks like that break I was craving might be delayed.

That said, there is a silver lining. Han confirmed this movie will be the "final chapter." So, I guess, at the end of the day, I am excited to see it all wrap up—eventually. Closure is coming… even if it’s a few years off.
