Listen up, ’90s kids: Disney+ is rebooting the beloved Doogie Howser…but there’s a small catch.
The streaming service just announced that it’s developing an all-new series based on the nostalgic TV show, which originally premiered in 1989 and starred Neil Patrick Harris as a teenage doctor. (Totally believable.)
Although the revival is inspired by Doogie Howser, it’ll feature a modern twist. The new series, which has a working title of Doogie Kameāloha, M.D., will follow a 16-year-old mixed-race physician named Lahela “Doogie” Kameāloha. The show will take place in Hawaii (just like the original), so cue the tropical sceneries.
But there will be some overlap from the original show’s production staff. Dayna and Jesse Bochco (aka the wife and son of Doogie Howser creator, the late Steven Bochco) will serve as executive producers. The duo will helm the series alongside Kourtney Kang (Fresh Off the Boat and How I Met Your Mother).
