I Just Watched This Bonkers New Thriller in Theaters—and, You Guys, There Are *So* Many Great Twists

Did I mention it's really, really good?

The new Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid thriller, Companion, has been one of the buzziest new films for weeks. Finally, I had a chance to take it in...and I have to admit, I was a bit nervous. I'm not the biggest fan of horror and, TBH, the trailer for the movie makes it look really, really scary. But fear not, my fellow horror-averse cinephiles! While the bizarre premise is certainly terrifying, Companion is a tension-filled thriller through and through. Thrills? Yes. Twists? So many. Violent? Yeah, for sure. But horror? Certainly not.

Here, my honest review of the fun, action-packed, thought-provoking film everyone's talking about.

The movie—and the trailer—begins with Thatcher's character Iris saying, "There have been two moments in life when I was happiest. The first day I met Josh. And the second, the day I killed him." Things only get crazier from there.

Without giving away any spoilers, Iris and Josh (Quaid) are a young couple headed off on a weekend getaway with friends to a gorgeous remote "cabin." When a shocking (and bloody) death occurs, the twists begin to fly at you fast and furious as Iris learns an earth-shattering secret about herself.

Though Companion is definitely a thriller, it's also so fun to watch. It's jam-packed with humor—much of it coming from one of Josh's friends, Eli, played by the brilliant Harvey Guillén—and ridiculous plot twists. It's a wicked and wild ride that I'm so glad I went on.

And clearly I'm not the only one who feels this way. Companion is "certified fresh" on Rotten Tomatoes with a whopping 93 percent rating. And over on IMDB, it's currently the number seven most popular movie.

Companion is playing now in theaters.
