This Highly-Anticipated New Charlize Theron Thriller Just Hit #1 on Netflix

Charlize Theron has a number one movie on Netflix, and I, for one, can’t wait to give it a watch.

The anticipated sequel, The Old Guard 2, is the actress’s latest film, and it’s already receiving praise from audience members for its jam-packed fight scenes and big-budget stunts. This go-round, Theron’s character, Andy, is tasked with bringing her team out of hiding when two powerful new enemies, including a once-trusted comrade and Andy’s former best friend, emerge to threaten the world. The release of The Old Guard 2 is nothing short of a miracle, as Theron “promised” fans it would come out last summer. The delay, according to Variety, was in part due to a change in Netflix leadership. 

“Netflix went through quite a changeover,” she told the publication, adding, “We got kind of stuck in that and our post-production shut down, I think, five weeks into it.” She continued: “They were going through a lot of changes, and I totally understand it. We finally picked it back up, and I’m really excited about it.”

The wait was worth it, according to Rotten Tomatoes reviewers, one of whom writes, “This film is a spectacular example of how to make a sequel that honors its predecessor while boldly forging its own path. The Old Guard 2 is everything and more, a triumphant return to the world of immortal warriors that manages to elevate the stakes, deepen the characters, and deliver some of the most exhilarating action sequences seen in years. This sequel doesn't just pick up where the first left off; it charges forward with renewed purpose and an emotional core that truly resonates.”

Looks like I’m adding this movie to my watchlist this weekend.
