Glossy Eyes Are the New Glossy Lips

We all love lip gloss, yes? So if we adore making our pouts look shiny, why wouldn’t we love the same effect elsewhere on our face?

We’re talking eye gloss, which essentially swaps out flat, matte or shimmery textures in favor of a vinyl-like finish. The effect is dewy, radiant and young, which, coincidentally, are all words we’d use describe our faces in a perfect world.

Makeup artists have been sending models down runways with glossy lids for years, but you can pull off the look too, even if you’re not a 16-year-old with cheekbones sharper than a fillet knife. Here’s how.

First, prep your eyes with your favorite eye cream (we like Kiehl’s Creamy Avocado Eye Treatment and Origins’ GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream). This will moisturize the area and cut back on flaking or dryness. The next step is totally optional, but if you typically use an eye shadow primer (like Urban Decay’s Primer Potion), do so now.

Then, apply your go-to shadow as you normally would, and top it off with the pièce de résistance: gloss. A number of brands make some version of it these days, from Milk Makeup’s Face Gloss and Make Beauty’s Face Gloss to NYX’s Lid Lacquer.

For a much lazier take on the trend (hey, we’ve all been there), swipe a little bit of Vaseline on your lids for a similarly light-reflecting look.

Because really, why should our lips have all the fun?
