Anyone who has ever stepped foot inside a Sephora knows that the place is jam-packed with every beauty product you've ever needed, wanted and didn’t even know existed. So when something sells out—twice, and within a one-week span—you’re going to be a little curious what the fuss is about. I certainly was.

Was it some new liquid lipstick or holographic highlighter creating all the buzz? Nope. It was a face mask—or technically, a "watermelon glow sleeping mask."

This is not to be confused with a sheet mask, which you already know we (and every celebrity ever) are obsessed with. Rather, this is a jar of clear goop that you smear across your face and—as the name implies—leave on throughout the night in hopes of waking up to softer skin. And smear I did.

My first thought was that it smelled strongly of watermelon candy (think Jolly Ranchers or Laffy Taffy). The texture was lighter than I expected it would be and much less sticky, which led me to examine the ingredient list. I was happy to see that there was actual watermelon fruit included (and not just an added fragrance), as well as some of the usual suspects like hyaluronic acid (for hydration) and glycolic acid (for some gentle exfoliation).

According to Glow Recipe's founders, the product was inspired by the Korean tradition of putting watermelon rinds on inflamed skin in the summer. It turns out the fruit is rich in potassium and vitamins that are calming when applied topically.

After Memorial Day weekend, I was looking a bit inflamed myself (I underestimated the sun on a cloudy beach day—big mistake), so I skipped my usual serums and creams and went straight for the watermelon mask. Guys: Believe the hype. Not only did the stuff feel nice and cooling on my skin, but it also made my face feel so incredibly soft. Most importantly, I woke up looking a little less red (which makes me wonder if this would have a similar effect on acne-related inflammation). I’ve been using it in place of my moisturizer for the past week, and honestly I don’t think I’ll stop anytime soon.

It’s currently sold out (again), but we’re told that they’re restocking very soon. In the meantime, I’d highly recommend putting yourself on the wait-list.
