When we think back to our first encounter with skincare, two things come to mind: Bath & Body Works glitter body spray and our mom’s stash of Clinique moisturizers. And we’re happy to report that only one of those is still in our daily rotation.

Clinique was founded in 1968 as the world’s first allergy tested and 100 percent fragrance-free beauty line. And it's been creating cult-favorite products since day one. One in particular we (and the rest of the beauty community) can’t get enough of? The Moisture Surge 72-Hour Auto-Replenishing Hydrator, which has been flying off shelves since 1988.

Upon first glance, it looks like your typical water cream, but it’s what’s beneath the surface that really counts. Thanks to a whole lot of hyaluronic acid, which holds 1,000 times its weight in water, and humectants that attract and bind water to skin, it’s literally a cool drink of H20 for your complexion. (Pop it in the fridge to really amp up the cooling effect.) It applies like a rich cream, but feels light as a feather once it’s absorbed, so it’s perfect for all skin types. And since we’re entering one of the driest times of year (curse you, winter), all that hydration is going to really come in handy. The very best part? The dewy glow it creates lasts a whopping 72 hours, even after giving our face a good scrub post-hot yoga (we know, because we tried it).

Then last year, Clinique added two more ingredients into Moisture Surge, only upping its effectiveness. The first is caffeine, which kick-starts skin’s own ability to retain water; and activated aloe water, which, in science-y terms, is specially charged to pull in and circulate water. In other words, both ingredients make everything else in this moisturizer so much more effective.

Now, that’s cool and all, but what’s really impressive is the amount of positive reviews this gel-cream has racked up. We’re talking 500 five-star reviews on Ulta and nearly 1,400 on Clinique’s own website. One buyer even went so far as to say, “It literally feels like you're putting on silk. It's so smooth and cooling…I have no need to ever sample another moisturizer because this one is perfect for my combo skin. Love, love, and love.”

Watch out flaky winter skin. This moisturizer has you beat.
