Your Weekly Horoscopes: May 10 to 16, 2020

This week be ready for the biggest cosmic mood shift since mid-February. Mercury, the communication planet, moves home to the quick-witted Gemini on the 11th. After months of confusion, unfiltered shouting and over-analyzing, we are finally able to articulate something. (Sigh of relief.) On the 13th, though, action planet Mars moves into free-spirited Pisces after forming a harsh square aspect to Mercury. We’re speaking clearly, but are we being heard?

Further adding to the commotion is Saturn, Venus and Jupiter all stationing retrograde this week. Though Saturn (our boundaries) and Jupiter (our expansiveness) spend many months each year moving backwards, Venus goes retrograde only once every 18 months (the last time was in October and November of 2018). Venus retrograde puts our values, aesthetics and relationships up for review, and with the love planet in Gemini, it’s really a time to embrace our curiosity. Until June 25th, we are investigating what truly brings comfort, harmony and happiness to our lives. It’s not a time to commit but to explore.

(Horoscopes follow for each sign. If you know your rising sign, reading for that will provide further insight.)

1 taurus

As Venus retrograde kicks off on the 13th, pay attention to your emotions around money. If you’re feeling jealous of a friend’s sweet promotion or your brother’s beautiful new house, remember that your concern should be your own security. Look back on the spring of 2012 (the last time Venus was retrograde in Gemini). How was your cash flow thriving or flailing? You know what makes you feel secure and comfortable, so focus on attracting more of that into your life. It's pointless to obsess over what you don't have.

This week’s mantra: Your thoughts create your reality.

As Venus stations retrograde in your sign this week, you are feeling desperate to change up your hair. And of course, you’re still likely unable to see your beloved stylist. Though I wouldn’t advise doing something too dramatic to your mane—especially by yourself and especially while Venus isn’t functioning as she normally does—it’s OK to try some coloring conditioner or break out the Manic Panic from your short-lived “punk phase.” Transform your bathroom into an at-home salon and treat this self-care as a spiritual experience.

This week’s mantra: I am always changing.

This is the week you seal the deal. That prospective client you’ve been courting since December finally emails that she’s fully on board. Your fiancé agrees that due to extenuating circumstances, your wedding might as well happen with a virtual officiant over Zoom. Sure, this milestone isn’t being celebrated with the usual fanfare, but what’s important is the rock-solid foundation. You can have the big party eventually. For now, pop a bottle of Champagne and toast to the future.
This week’s mantra: The future is now.

This week, you have the chance to take advantage of a career opportunity that was put on hold when all this began. Whether it’s your boss circling back to a brilliant idea you pitched in February, scheduling an interview at your dream job or a public speaking gig being rescheduled for a Zoom forum, you’re finally getting some recognition. Things aren’t working out quite the way you planned, but maybe it’s better this way. By the 15th, you’re back in your flow, working hard to make your vision come to life.

This week’s manta: Expect the unexpected.

5 virgo

Though the week begins with a stressful situation at the (virtual) office, being faced with the nitty-gritty details of yet another crisis helps you feel like yourself again. You’re at your best when you’re able to help. Putting out this particular office fire makes you even more aware of your role in the workplace. Is it time to ask for a raise? Is it time to change careers and go into a more service-oriented profession? The next few weeks are about reconnecting with your role as a leader. Take it all in.

This week’s mantra: You get what you focus on.

It’s time to consider your dreams, your ambitions and the big picture. With Venus—your ruling planet—stationing retrograde on the 13th, you are being called to evaluate whether you’re on the right path. It’s not a time to make a life-changing or shattering decision, but it is time to take in all the information that you can. If you’ve been wanting to learn a new skill, pick up a new language or just read up more about gardening, now is the time. Follow your curiosity.

This week’s mantra: Follow the fun.

On the 11th, an important heart-to-heart with your dad—or your landlord!—settles a longstanding grudge that was majorly stressing you out and making things miserable at home. Though there are certainly some lingering issues, you at least feel like you can move ahead without constant drama and tears. This frees up your brain space to swipe through the apps and set up a post-quarantine hang with your crush as Mars enters your pleasure sector on the 13th, bringing the heat to your romantic life.

This week’s mantra: Don’t look back.

8 sagittarius

Even if you love where you live, you find yourself browsing rentals in another city or clicking through real estate listings for dream homes that are way out of your budget this week. You’ve been so frugal all year so let these virtual home tours remind you that some things really are worth the extra cash. Luckily on the 14th, you get some positive news about your finances. Whatever goes down isn’t making you rich, but it’s certainly helping you feel secure.

This week’s mantra: Take not of what’s comforting as you grow.

Most of this week is spent fixing an administrative mistake that wasn’t your fault. You have the patience of an angel: waiting on hold with your insurance provider, explaining to your boss that she applied for the wrong loan. By the end of the week, you’re ready for a stiff cocktail or an indulgent meal to unwind. Though you’ve been watching your budget very closely since late March, you can loosen your grip on your wallet this week. Treat yourself to something nice.

This week’s mantra: This splurge is worth it.

10 aquarius

Since Saturn entered your sign on March 21st, you’ve been discovering or re-discovering yet another layer of your identity. You’ve needed to act more professional or—gasp!—you’ve found some new gray hairs. As the discipline planet stations retrograde on the 11th, you can stop obsessing about your email etiquette or those under-eye fine lines and settle into your skin. With Venus also stationing retrograde in your pleasure sector on the 13th, why don't you give yourself a break by paying attention to what's sweet rather than what’s sour (and way too serious).

This week’s mantra: When in doubt, laugh it off.

11 pisces

Though you’re usually a fish who doesn’t like to make too much of a splash, with action planet Mars entering your sign on the 13th, you get a surge of self-confidence. Why not be gutsy? You’re sticking up for yourself constantly this week, especially in disagreements with your roommates or your parents. Over the next few weeks, you must deeply consider who is really a part of your chosen family. Only surround yourself with those who want to see you shine.

This week’s mantra: Speak up.

12 aries

If you’ve been spending all your time comforting your co-workers or organizing way too many Zoom happy hours, the social pressure finally settles as Mars dives into your unconscious sector on the 13th. It’s time to focus on your own peace by developing daily practices to keep yourself in check. Your productivity increases as you make time to do little things for yourself: morning journaling, an afternoon cup of tea or an evening foot soak slash phone check in with your sister. There’s freedom in consistency.

This week’s mantra: Stay the course.
