Eating Ice Cream for Breakfast Makes You Smarter, According to Best Study Ever

Feeling bad that you’ve already given up your New Year’s eating goals? Don’t. A Japanese study (aka the best study of all time) says eating ice cream for breakfast will increase your brain activity. Yep. We’re serious.

Here’s the gist: Scientist Yoshihiko Koga, a professor at Kyorin University in Tokyo, fed a group of test subjects ice cream, then gave them a series of mental tests on the computer. The subjects who chowed down on ice cream right after waking up performed tasks more quickly and accurately than people who didn’t eat breakfast, and people who drank only water.

OK, skeptics will argue that eating breakfast of any kind—whether it’s ice cream, eggs or a green juice—will increase your brain function and make it easier to perform mental tasks in the a.m. Also, are we talking full-fat ice cream? Or does fro-yo count?

Even so, we hereby give you permission to swap your avocado toast for some slow-churned strawberry just this once. We haven’t been this excited since we found out drinking wine before bed helps you lose weight.
