This Catskills Cottage Is Straight Out of a Fairytale

Looking for a magical winter escape? Look no further than The Faerie Forest at The Roxbury at Stratton Falls, a fairytale-themed cottage nestled three hours outside of NYC in the Catskill mountains. (Because if ever there was a time to pretend like we were all living in a far happier and better place, it’s now.)

The Cottage

Floor-to-ceiling foliage, rock ledges, twinkling faerie lights and a winding cedar tree staircase are just some of the whimsical sights to greet visitors as they enter the cottage. Mushroom wall features and faerie statues are some of the others. Take a full tour of the fantastical property by checking out the video above. (Spoiler: The clip has an adorable ending where the two property owners, Joseph and Gregory, dress up as actual faeries.)

The Amenities

Peter Pan may only have needed “faith, trust and a little pixie dust,” but us discerning travelers need a few more amenities than that. Happily, The Faerie Forest has all the modern comforts you would expect in an upscale property, including two queen bedrooms each with their own en-suite bathroom. The living room also features a sleeper sofa, so you can fit up to six people in the cottage. Guests can enjoy the full-size refrigerator, microwave and wet bar sink, and a screened-in back-porch with outdoor dining tables—the perfect spot to take in the views of the surrounding forest and mountains.

The Grounds

Equally enchanting are the grounds themselves. Start your day by warming up with a mug of the inn’s signature white cocoa and take in the property’s own private waterfall from the observation deck overlooking the snow-capped mountains. Next, hit the slopes—guests can receive premier ski discounts to some of the best resorts in town including Plattekill, where visitors can buy out the entire mountain to ski, snowboard and snow tube. Finally, shake off the chill at the onsite spa, complete with private sauna and hot tub reservations.

The Roxbury at Stratton Falls is now open and complying with new safety precautions due to COVID-19, including contactless check in and stringent new cleaning protocols and procedures. You can learn about their Covid cleaning protocols and procedures here.

Reservations for The Faerie Forest are now available starting at $500 per night. But if you can’t nab a booking (or it’s a little too fantastical for your taste), check out the property’s other cottages like Galileo’s Gate that features rich mahogany and a stargazing glass observation deck or The Lost Horizon with glamorous Hollywood grand art deco vibes.
