7 Trends That Will Be Huge in December
From deep soaks to belted coats, this holiday season should be merry and bright. And if it isn’t? Well, that’s trending too. As temperatures plummet, let’s unwrap the final round of hot topics for 2019.
Now, one could argue that Tay is always trending. But we are about to enter a particularly Swift-saturated season. On the heels of her spotlight-owning, controversy-fueled AMAs performance, she’ll be anointed Billboard’s Woman of the Decade on December 12. This will, in turn, build buzz for the upcoming Grammys in January. And then of course there’s Cats opening on December 20. In her honor, we’re going to really go wild and…leave the Christmas lights up ’til January. This is our place. We make the rules.
Festivus FOMO, not getting invited to the Hanukkah party, a Christmas family crisis—no one is immune to the emotional turmoil the season can bring. As a result, expect lots of confessional sharing and supportive caring on social media. Which, in a way, really does make it the most wonderful time of the year.
Step aside, Baby Shark. There’s a new viral sensation in town. Interest in Star Wars merch is already stratospheric thanks to The Rise of Skywalker in theaters on December 20. But the Force is really with the irresistible green star of Disney+’s The Mandalorian. Though officially called “The Child,” obsessed fans have renamed him Baby Yoda. Whoever swings a lightsaber in your house will be begging you to buy one. There is only buy or do not buy. There is no try.
Celebs in Jammies
Kristen Bell kicked off hibernation season by posting a very real marriage moment while wearing Sesame Street pajamas. Then Cardi B had us all riveted when she wore Louis Vuitton pj’s to answer Vogue’s 73 Questions (with a cameo by Kulture!). So as the months of school vacations, ski getaways, tryptophan naps and hygge set in, it’s a safe bet influencers will be playing the pajama game. And if last year’s display is any indication, expect to see multiple Kar-Jenners in footed onesies.
Belting your coat
We’re not talking about the cincher that came with your trench. If New York’s trendiest ladies are any indication, this is officially the winter where women pull their leather, suede and metal belts out of their closets and tie them tight around even the bulkiest wool jackets. Consider this figure-flattering look the 2019 antidote to the shapeless Amazon Coat.
Forget the literati. It’s all about the Little-rati. As Oscar buzz builds for Greta Gerwig’s Little Women (opening Christmas Day), the trailer for the new Emma is gaining momentum. Meanwhile, novelist Virginia Kantra is giving the March sisters a modern spin in her Little Women adaptation, Meg and Jo (in which Jo is a food blogger), out December 3.
