Baked beans are an essential summer side dish. Here, we cook them entirely in a Crock-Pot, so you can get out of the kitchen and back into the sun where you belong.
1 pound navy beans, soaked overnight in cool water
1 cup chopped bacon
1 sweet onion, chopped
1 garlic clove, smashed
3 cups water
¾ cup ketchup
⅓ dark brown sugar
2 tablespoons cider vinegar
Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
1. When ready to cook, drain the soaked beans and put them in your slow cooker.
2. Add the chopped bacon, sweet onion and garlic clove to the slow cooker.
3. Add the water, ketchup, dark brown sugar and cider vinegar to the slow cooker. Season with salt and pepper.
3. Cook on low for 6 hours.
