Taylor Swift and the Dixie Chicks Teamed Up for a New Song, but You'll Need to Grab the Kleenex

We may never get another favorite like “Cowboy Take Me Away,” but we do have new Dixie Chicks music to be thankful for.

Taylor Swift released her seventh studio album, Lover, at midnight last night. The album, an 18-track pastel-covered delight that’s equal parts sappy and heartbreaking, turns the singer’s darker Reputation on its head. But it’s her collaboration with the Dixie Chicks that really has us excited.

For the song “Soon You’ll Get Better,” Swift teamed up with the country-pop trio. The heart-wrenching song, inspired by Swift’s mom and her continued battle with breast cancer, features little instrumentation (Martie Maguire’s fiddle and a pair of guitars) in order to let Swift’s raw and emotional lyrics stand out.

“Who am I s’posed to talk to?/What am I s’posed to do?/If there’s no you,” Swift sings. Pass the tissues, please.

This isn’t the only Dixie Chicks news. The trio announced in June of this year that they’re also recording an album, the first new material in 13 years.Their last album, Taking the Long Way, debuted in 2006.

We may not be ready to make nice, but we are ready for more Dixie Chicks.
