‘This Is Us’ Star Susan Kelechi Watson Co-Wrote a Season 6 Episode: ‘Baby Takes Her First Steps’

Susan Kelechi Watson is taking on a much bigger role for the sixth—and final—season of This Is Us. (And no, it doesn’t have anything to do with her character, Beth.)

Yesterday, the 39-year-old actress revealed that she co-wrote episode six alongside Eboni Freeman. Watson announced the exciting news on Instagram and explained that the installment, titled “Our Little Island Girl: Part Two,” began filming this week.

The slideshow features a photo of the script’s cover page, which lists Watson and Freeman as the writers. The second pic is a selfie of the writing duo, who are both sporting ear-to-ear grins.

The caption read, “Today baby takes her 1st steps. Episode 606 starts filming today. Couldn’t have done this without my fabulous co parent @ebonifreeman who also wrote Our Little Island Girl part 1. She is Queen.”

Watson also revealed how the opportunity came about, explaining that the show’s creator, Dan Fogelman, reached out and gave her a chance. “And the biggest shout out to Sir Daniel Fogelman who called me up and said, ‘I know you wanna write... wanna write this episode?’” she continued. “I meannnn. Dan...no words, only emojis [raising hands emoji] [100 points emoji] [raising hands emoji] [100 points emoji]!”

Fans and followers immediately filled the comments section with well wishes. One person wrote, “Super congrats, Sue!!! The blank page is nothing to mess with!!! Proud.” Another added, “You are so talented [red heart emojis]!”

So. Well. Deserved.
