Fans are about to see Sofía Vergara (who famously played Gloria on Modern Family) like never before.

On Wednesday, Netflix released brand-new photos from the upcoming series, Griselda, where Vergara will play the infamous Colombian drug lord. The first photo shows the 51-year-old actress looking almost identical to the crime boss as she walks down the street wearing a tropical shirt, black trousers, turquoise pointed heels and chestnut brown curls.

The caption read, “Sofía Vergara takes on the role inspired by Griselda Blanco, the legendary ‘godmother’ of the cartel world.” And guess what? Viewers can expect to see the highly anticipated series in (drumroll, please) January 2024.

Back in January 2022, the streaming service offered the first glimpse of the series on Twitter, and it was clear Vergara has gone through a complete transformation for the role. Along with the promo image, the caption said, “Sofía Vergara stars as Griselda Blanco in a new limited series inspired by the Colombian businesswoman who created one of the most profitable cartels in history, which led to her being known as the ‘Godmother’ — FIRST LOOK.”

The limited series was first announced back in November 2021, where Vergara said, “Griselda Blanco was a larger-than-life character whose ruthless but ingenious tactics allowed her to rule a billion dollar empire years before many of the most notorious male kingpins we know so much about. We are thrilled to have found the perfect partners in Eric (Newman), Andrés (Baiz) and Netflix to help us bring this story of her life to the screen.”

Vergara will star in and executive produce the new limited series. In addition, Baiz will serve as the director of all six episodes of Griselda. Besides Vergara, the show will star Alberto Guerra, Vanessa Ferlito, Alberto Ammann, Christian Tappan, Diego Trujillo, Paulina Davila, Gabriel Sloyer, Juliana Aidén Martinez, Martin Rodriguez, José Zúñiga, Maximiliano Hernández and Julieth Restrepo, according to Deadline.

Vergara has been developing this project with Balaguer for the last eight years, and we can't wait to see her take on this gritty role.
