Will the ‘Sex and the City’ Reboot Recast Samantha? SJP Weighs in

This week started off with some pretty big news—we’re finally getting that Sex and the City reboot we’ve been hearing rumors about for years. And while the series has officially been confirmed by Carrie Bradshaw Sarah Jessica Parker herself, we’re also slowly starting to get some details including what’s going to happen with Samantha.

ICYMI: On Sunday, SJP sent the internet into a frenzy when she released a short teaser of the upcoming series called And Just Like That. The clip, which she shared on her personal IG page, features footage of the bustling New York City and a computer screen, which reveals the show's title. She wrote, "I couldn’t help but wonder... where are they now?”

In addition to the teaser, it was also revealed that ParkerCynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis will be reprising their roles as Carrie, Miranda Hobbes and Charlotte York, respectively. However, Kim Cattrall, who played Samantha Jones, will not be returning. Of course, the internet (us included) has a ton of questions. Seriously how do you have SATC without Samantha Jones?

To get some answers, one eager fan pitched a possible replacement in the comments section of the 55-year-old actress's post. “No disrespect to Kim, but if she's not participating please please please recast Samantha with the awesome Jennifer Coolidge,” the user wrote. “I would line up and pay good money to see Jennifer as Samantha.”

And in an unexpected turn of events, SJP actually responded. “We have some new stories to tell. We are excited,” she responded. Parker also followed up on another user’s comment about missing “Kim/Samantha” writing, “We will too. We loved her so.”

So, while there was nothing concrete about these responses, we have a feeling we won’t be seeing Samantha Jones in the new series at all. But hey, we’re still looking forward to it.
