I must admit I love a good throwback photo. From Jennifer Garner to Kerry Washington and Meghan Markle, it's such a fun little peek into the "before" days of a star's life before fame hit them. So when Sarah Michelle Gellar posted a little throwback in honor of her 48th birthday, I couldn't help but cue the "awwwwwwwww."

You probably recognize the actress from her iconic turn as Buffy the Vampire Slayer and notable '90s slasher films like I Know What You Did Last Summer and Scream 2. (She's also married to Freddie Prinze Jr., for whom I will always have a soft spot because of She's All That.)

To mark her 48th birthday on April 14th, Gellar shared an old, undated photo. "Today I’m channeling this birthday queen … luckily it’s me!!!" She wrote. It shows an elementary-aged Gellar wearing an obligatory birthday crown over her chestnut tresses and a floral-print Peter Pan-collar dress while smiling shyly at the camera. Adorable!

In conjunction with her own birthday post, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum also paid tribute to her late friend, fellow actress and Beverly Hills, 90210 star, Shannen Doherty, who passed away in 2024 due to breast cancer. She wrote: "For as long as I can remember, we have celebrated our birthdays together @theshando This year I will keep that tradition, and celebrate you. I am so glad we were all together on this day last year, not knowing it would be the last like this. Happy Birthday Shannen. 🕊️"

In recent years, Gellar has worked on projects like The CW's Ringer (2011-2012), The Crazy Ones (2013-2014) on CBS and Paramount+'s Wolf Pack (2023). As for what's next? She also took to Instagram to announce that she'd been cast to star in Bad Summer People, an adaptation of Emma Rosenblum's debut novel of the same name. If the series is anything like the plot, it'll bring a little White Lotus energy to Fire Island.

Cheers to new years, and new endeavors!
