Sarah Jessica Parker Reveals She Didn’t Like *This* Iconic Carrie Bradshaw Character Trait

You don’t need to be a Sex and the City mega-fan or (even an occasional viewer) to know that the Cosmopolitan is basically its own character in the series. But as it turns out—sit down for this one—Sarah Jessica Parker didn’t even like Carrie Bradshaw’s signature drink.

During a July 25 appearance on iHeartPodcast’s ‘Table for Two With Bruce Bozzi,’ the And Just Like That actress, 58, shared that at the height of the show’s fame in the 2000s, she wasn’t a fan of the popular pink drink.

“The ones on the show were that kind of Cosmopolitan that you later learn are not the good ones,” Parker explained. “First of all, ours weren’t real, they were cranberry juice and water. You can go to a bar and be served a Cosmopolitan that is just cranberry juice.”

OK, fair enough. We would be pretty sad if we had to drink sh*tty Cosmos all the time. Even worse for Parker, she shared that fans would send orders of the drink to her table, and she would have to kindly take a sip and feign enjoyment.

It wasn’t until Parker tasted what the drink is supposed to be that she started to appreciate it. “One day someone sent a Cosmopolitan over and it was opaque, pale pink, fleshy, you could see a little bit of pulp of whatever citrus had been used, with a twist, freezing cold, and I was like, ‘Oh, this is a Cosmopolitan. I get it now,” she said.

Though she didn’t specify which restaurant crafted the specific cocktail, it was good enough to make her a Cosmo convert. (Welcome to the club, SJP.) “I really started drinking Cosmopolitans that I chose on my own and would order,” Parker explained, “like six, seven years ago, and I love them.”

Oh, and if you’re at all intrigued, here’s how to make a Cosmopolitan (you know, a good one).

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces vodka (or lemon vodka)
  • 1 ounce Cointreau
  • 1 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1 ounce cranberry juice cocktail
  • Lemon twist, to garnish (optional)

Directions

Step 1: Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker.

Step 2: Fill with ice and shake until chilled.

Step 3: Strain into a coupe or cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon twist, if desired.
