Royal Family Members Offer Rare Reflections in the Teaser Trailer for New Prince Philip Documentary

It looks like we'll be getting some rare firsthand accounts from royals in a new documentary from the BBC.

As we recently learned, the network is releasing a movie called Prince Philip: The Royal Family Remembers in late September. In the write-up for the doc, they say, “For the first time on television, more than a dozen members of the royal family offer their personal thoughts and reflections as they pay an historic tribute to the extraordinary life of HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.”

Now, ahead of the film's release, the BBC just released a short teaser, which features snippets from four different royal family members. In the clip, Prince William, Prince Harry, Zara Tindall and Prince Charles each reflect on the life of Prince Philip.

“He's always been a huge presence behind everything we've done really,” the Duke of Cambridge says at the beginning. “What you see is what you got with my grandfather,” Prince Harry adds. “He was unapologetically him.”

As the royals offer their personal reflections on the late duke, photos and home movies flash across the screen, where Prince Philip is seen riding bikes and rowing boats with his grandchildren, among other candid moments.

“You never really prepare yourself for losing him because he was always there,” Zara Tindall says. Meanwhile, Prince Charles closes out the clip by adding, “We were lucky to have him for nearly a hundred years.”

Originally, BBC had planned on filming the documentary to celebrate the duke's 100th birthday, and it is composed of footage taken before and after his passing in early April. The documentary is composed of “poignant recollections, plenty of humor and numerous fresh insights into the character and legacy of this royal pioneer.” Meanwhile, they say, “With special access to the Queen’s private cine-film collection, this film is an unrivaled portrait of a man with a unique place in royal history - by those who knew him best.”

Get your popcorn ready, royal followers. The documentary premieres September 22.
