Princess Anne Steps Out in Rarely Seen Gold Leaf Brooch—and There’s a Sentimental Meaning Behind It

It’s a personal favorite

Princess Anne’s brooch collection is vast, this we know. But this week, the Princess Royal visited the Wellingborough District Hindu Association and donned what is thought to be a uniquely personal piece from her jewelry collection: Her gold wreath brooch.

Unlike the sapphire brooch Anne stepped out in last week, royal jewelry experts thus far have found no long-term familial connections to the piece. But they have assessed it to be significant to Anne in a different way—mainly due to the fact that is thought to have been purchased by the princess for herself.

The cost contributes to that assessment—the gold leaf brooch clocks in at just $6,000, which is still a hefty price tag, but not in comparison to other pricier heirloom brooches like the one Queen Camilla wore in Italy, which is worth $10 million. A gold leaf is also full of meaning given that it symbolizes friendship and hope amid hardship.

Over the years, when the brooch has appeared, Anne has chosen to wear it for royal occasions where the symbolism lines up. For example, this week’s engagement, which honored the WDHA and their 50+ years of selfless volunteer service and community impact. The Princess Royal dressed to impress for the occasion and was on hand to present the King’s Award for Voluntary Service, which is the U.K.’s highest honor for volunteer groups.

We love the thought that goes into Anne’s brooch choice and can’t wait to see what she wears next.
