Just a day after Kensington Palace confirmed Princess Catherine's previously unannounced abdominal surgery, Prince William was photographed paying a visit to the hospital to keep his wife company as she recovers.

The 41-year-old heir to the British throne spent Thursday morning at Kate Middleton's bedside at a private London clinic, then was spotted leaving by car early in the afternoon. According to The Telegraph, the prince will continue his hospital visits while taking care of their three children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5, in Windsor. Additionally, per Today, Kensington Palace revealed that Prince William will postpone upcoming appearances while his wife continues to recuperate in the hospital.

New photos of the prince in his car were released following his morning visit on Thursday, including a close-up of William driving away from The London Clinic around 12:35 p.m.

The new shots come only a day after Kate Middleton's hospitalization was announced on the royal family's official Instagram account. In the full statement, palace officials said that the princess is "unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter."

It reads, "Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales was admitted to hospital yesterday for planned abdominal surgery. The surgery was successful and it is expected that she will remain in the hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery."

The statement continues, “The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate. She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private.”

Although the details of Middleton's operation are under wraps, royal journalist Emily Nash confirmed that her condition "does not relate to cancer." And fortunately, the princess "looks forward to reinstating as many engagements as possible."

We're glad to know that Prince William is right by her side as she recovers.
