Prince Charles and Queen Letizia had an artistically inclined playdate yesterday and (possibly) debuted their secret handshake. Needless to say, it was a big day.
The 70-year-old Prince of Wales and the 46-year-old Queen of Spain reunited to appreciate the new “Sorolla: Spanish Master of Light” exhibition of Spanish artist Joaquín Sorolla’s work at the National Portrait Gallery and greeted each other like the old friends they are.
The royals kicked their art excursion off with a handshake-fist-bump hybrid that looked like a portion of the Parent Trap secret handshake. (Could it be?!)
Prince Charles also swooped in for a friendly kiss and elbow grab.
Then, it was time to start their tour. The prince, who is Patron of the National Gallery, was more than happy to show his guest around the first Sorolla exhibition to appear in the United Kingdom.
Queen Letizia dressed as chic as ever for the occasion, wearing a custom floral Carolina Herrera day dress with quarter sleeves and a fit-and-flare skirt. She paired the bespoke pre-fall 2019 collection frock with navy suede Nina Ricci shoes and a midnight blue satin clutch. The journalist-turned-queen topped the look with large aquamarine teardrop Bvlgari “MVSA” collection earrings that she’s worn previously. She let her massive earrings shine by wearing her hair pulled back into a voluminous low ponytail with loose pieces around her face á la Meghan Markle.
Charles looked dapper as well, wearing a blue pinstriped suit with an azure and gray patterned tie and a heather gray and charcoal printed pocket square (now that’s power-clashing at its finest). He pulled the ensemble together with black dress shoes and his family signet ring.
First Princess Beatrice made her first public appearance with her new boyfriend at the National Portrait Gala and now this royal outing? The National Portrait Gallery is totally poppin’.
