It’s been four months since ABC renewed Grey’s Anatomy for an 18th season and we’re already one month away from the premiere.
Back in May, the network also revealed that several series regulars—like Ellen Pompeo (Meredith Grey), Chandra Wilson (Miranda Bailey) and James Pickens Jr. (Richard Webber)—would reprise their beloved roles. And while we’re still not over the loss of some familiar favorites after season 16—including Giacomo Gianniotti (Andrew DeLuca) and Jesse Williams (Jackson Avery)—it helps us to know that we’re getting a new addition to the upcoming installment.
According to Deadline, Peter Gallagher will be taking on the role of Dr. Alan Hamilton, who has unspecified ties to Dr. Ellis Grey (Kate Burton) and “may hold the key” to her return to the series. Per the outlet, both Gallagher and Burton are set to be featured in the season’s premiere (airing on September 30), which means fans can expect a handful of flashbacks.
His new role aside, Gallagher is no stranger to the small screen. The actor has also starred in a recurring role on Netflix’s Grace and Frankie and recently starred in NBC’s Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist. His resume also includes stints on Law & Order: SVU, New Girl, The O.C. and more.
