Paging all Lexie Grey fans! ABC just released a brand-new Grey’s Anatomy promo, which confirms the return of the beloved character (played by Chyler Leigh).
It all started after last night’s episode, when the network aired a never-before-seen trailer teasing what’s to come in next week’s installment.
The video takes place on Meredith’s (Ellen Pompeo) beach and features the surgeon casually wading in the ocean. Right on cue, a “surprise beach guest” hands her a towel. The camera pans to reveal Lexie, Meredith’s half-sister who tragically passed away in season eight.
“I like it here,” Meredith says. To which Lexie responds, “Are you going to stay?”
The scene is a pretty big deal, since last night’s episode featured Meredith fighting for her life after getting COVID-19. Although the doctors believe she’s on the verge of waking up, this brand-new promo makes us think otherwise.
Lexie isn’t the first character to return from the dead in season 17 of Grey’s Anatomy. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) made the first cameo in Meredith’s beach dream. George O’Malley (T.R. Knight) was the next visitor, followed by Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti), who tragically passed away in episode eight.
Although we originally thought there was no chance for Lexie’s return, we were (thankfully) so wrong. Grey’s Anatomy airs on Thursdays at 9 p.m. on ABC.
