The 92nd annual Academy Awards took place tonight at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. During the event, Hair Love took home the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film.

The competition included Dcera (Daughter), Kitbull, Memorable and Sister. This was the only nomination for all of the animated short films.

During last year’s ceremony, Bao won the highly coveted Oscar for this category. The film beat out a slew of worthy nominees, including Animal BehaviourLate AfternoonOne Small Step and Weekends.

The Academy first introduced the Best Animated Short Film category back in 1932, when Walt Disney swept the genre. No, really. Not only did he win the award eight years in a row, but he also holds the record for most wins (15) and nominations (49). Some of his winning work includes Flowers and Trees, Three Little Pigs, Toot, Whistle, Plunk and Boom and The Ugly Duckling.

The Oscars define short as being “not more than 40 minutes, including all credits.” Other winners include Dear BasketballPiperBear StoryFeastMr. HublotPaperman and The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore.

Way to go, Hair Love!
