Oprah Just Came to Meghan Markle’s Defense on National TV, and This Is What She Had to Say

Who better to have on your side than Oprah Winfrey?

In an interview with CBS This Morning, the 65-year-old media mogul just stepped up to defend Meghan Markle in regards to the endless stream of negative press aimed at the duchess and mom-to-be.

“I think she’s being portrayed unfairly, and I feel that if people really knew her they would know that she is not only everything we perceive of her in being graceful and dynamic in holding that position, but she just has a wonderful, warm, giving, loving heart,” Winfrey said in the interview.

Gayle King (Winfrey’s BFF, who also attended Markle’s New York City baby shower in February) added her own anecdote, stating, “She’s very kind. She doesn’t seem to buy into [the bad press] though.”

This defense comes after the announcement that Winfrey would be teaming up with Markle’s hubs, Prince Harry, to create a multi-part documentary on mental health for the Apple TV platform. We knew Oprah was close pals with Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland, but it seems she’s also getting cozier and cozier with the royal couple (something we could only dream of). We shouldn’t be so surprised—she did attend the royal wedding, after all.

And Winfrey isn’t the only big name to come to Markle’s defense of late. In February, George Clooney told a press audience “She’s a woman who is seven months pregnant and she has been pursued and vilified and chased in the same way that Diana was and it’s history repeating itself.” And friends of the duchess have anonymously spoken on her behalf to the press. Kensington Palace has even gone so far as to implement social media rules for anyone interacting on their pages (i.e., trolls).

This is all just further proof that we need to be friends with Oprah (and Meghan Markle, obv).
