Is Meghan Markle Attending the Met Gala this Year? Reports Have Been Conflicting

The Met Gala, with its extremely impressive co-chairs (hello Meryl Streep), is only two months away. But a recent report has one particularly notable ex-royal accepting an invitation to attend.

It’s been reported by The Sun that Meghan Markle will be attending the biggest fashion event of the year with Vogue editor Edward Enninful. This would be one of her first post-royal appearances. Unfortunately, while our fingers are crossed for a fashion moment from Meghan, other reports are debunking the news. 

"HELLO! understands that the Duchess will not be attending the star-studded bash this year," Hello! Magazine reported based on their own sources. 

Markle and Enninful have worked together previously, as she guest-edited the September British Vogue issue, "Forces for Change." Just a few weeks ago, the duchess posted a behind-the-scenes video of herself and Enninful that included fun hats and calling celebs like Lavene Cox and Jane Fonda.

"You have an editor’s eye. I mean I’ve never seen anything like it," the editor told Markle in the video. "You were so thorough from beginning to end."

We’ve been closely following all the Meghan and Harry news since they announced they were stepping down from their royal duties. So much has happened: They’re not allowed to use the term "royal," they closed their offices at Buckingham Palace and they made the final move to Canada. The official break from the royal family will start on March 31, just in time for the Gala. 

The Met Gala will be held on May 4th and this year’s theme is "About Time: Fashion and Duration" in honor of the museum's 150th anniversary and inspired by the 1992 film Orlando. The period piece focuses heavily on British history, so a Markle reported invite seems pretty appropriate. 

No further details have been revealed about Markle's appearance, but we'll just be waiting patiently for confirmation from the duchess herself if she decides to actually go.
