“I have been married once before, as we all know. And I just thought, this is the one to have fun with. I loved the setting, we were on the beach,” Akerman shared.
She and Donnelly, 32, tied the knot at Papaya Playa, a luxury resort focused on preserving the Mayan jungle, which is very much in line with her environmentally conscious ethos. It was also the perfect destination to forgo a traditional white wedding gown.
“It wasn’t even a decision. I just saw that color on a dress that was similar to the one I ended up wearing and I just thought, ‘That is so beautiful,’” Akerman explained. “It just made me happy. So, it was just sort of on a whim. I knew I wanted a color [and I almost went with] a bright electric yellow, but I think the soft pink worked well.”
Ultimately, she opted for a blush pink Cushnie gown, Jacquie Aiche jewelry and bare feet. “We both wanted a barefoot wedding, and that’s what we got…beautiful sand beaches,” the actress recalled.
Akerman went on to explain that she’s low-key in terms of dressing to begin with. “Anything that involves jeans is really in style,” she said of her personal style. But this boho chic blush gown really takes the (wedding) cake.
