Why Didn’t Lena Headey Attend the ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 8 Premiere?

There’s no denying that Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams’s coordinating outfits stole the show at the Game of Thrones season eight premiere in New York City. But amid all the reunions and Emilia Clarke sightings, we couldn’t help but wonder why Lena Headey (Cersei) was missing from the bunch.

Well, according to the 45-year-old actress, there’s a totally relatable reason for her absence. Although Headey was planning on attending the red-carpet event, she was forced to cancel when she realized she was too sick.

The Game of Thrones star announced the news on Instagram and shared a selfie from the comfort of her bed, writing, “Gutted. Heartbroken and f***** off, still doesn’t cover my disappointment at not being able to travel to NYC for our final prem tonight. I f****** hate being sick and the timing of this is a s*** bag. But…S8 is the tits and so are all my cast mates and crew mates and creators… so RIDE FORTH INTO THE NIGHT AND CREATE MAYHEM … Love you, beauties.”

Season eight of GoT will begin with Queen Daenerys’s (Clarke) royal procession as she, Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) arrive at Winterfell.

While we don’t know what the new episodes hold for Cersei, Headey previously revealed that she wasn’t the last actor standing. “I was, like, the 12th one out,” she said. “That’s not giving anything away.”

Here’s hoping Headey has a speedy recovery! Game of Thrones will return to HBO on Sunday, April 14.
